Welcome to our Garden Café

The Garden Café which is extremely popular with walkers out enjoying our beautiful area, offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere whilst providing a wonderful view of part of Lyme Bay and across to Portland. We serve a fine selection of daily specials – good homemade, unpretentious and wholesome ‘comfort food’ made using local, grass fed meats, herbs and veggies alongside other equally superb local produce. Our cakes and scones are baked on the premises daily and our cream tea is, we are frequently told, one of the best! As everything is made to order, we can tailor most meals to suit individual dietary requirements. The garden back’s onto Eype Down, a woodland backdrop, which during May has a breathtaking display of Bluebells – a joy to behold (and inhale). So come and enjoy a quiet break, read the daily papers and local information provided, study your map, soak up the view – and simply enjoy! We care very much about you – our customers – and have built our business on the back of your comments, suggestions and requests received over the years. What matters the most to us is knowing that we will see you here again and again, as we prefer to think of you more as friends passing through rather than customers here for the day. We hope the experience will stand out in your memory for all the very best reasons so that we know we have achieved something a little bit special. If you are new to us, we hope you will agree and if you have been coming here forever then thankyou so much – we love you too!

The café is open from February to the beginning of October from 10am, with last orders at 4:30pm, Friday to Sunday. Join us for breakfast served from 10am until 11.30am, mid-morning coffee, lunch served until 2.30pm or afternoon tea. We are licensed and serve a fine selection of local ciders and ales plus wines, continental lagers and prosecco. We aim to fill that gap between afternoon tea and the lure of the pub. We actively encourage our customers to walk to us if they can – there are numerous routes you can take which vary to suit different abilities. Please ring for directions if required.

Suppliers

What we cannot produce ourselves we source, where possible, from other local suppliers:

Fish

Davys Locker, an established supplier of First Class Fish and Shellfish, which is purchased daily, mainly from West Country ports.

Vegetables

Our Own Garden produces a lot of the veg, salad and herbs used in our kitchen, plus established local green grocers, Washingpool Farm.

Meat

Locally produced, grass fed meat.

Dairy

Leopard Dairy Products, Blandford supplies our delicious Dorset Clotted Cream, and our Mature Cheddar and Blue Vinney used in our popular platters.

Ice Cream

Baboo Gelato – superb ice-creams and sorbets including one especially for your furry friends ‘Doggy Yum Yum’!

Bread

Supplied by the lovely family run ‘Charmouth Bakery’ who bake and deliver 6 days a week

Beverages

Comins Tea House, Sherborne and Clipper Teas, Beaminster supply our organic and fair-trade Tea’s, Coffee and Hot Chocolate.

Eggs

On sale here are our own and our friends free range eggs. As our kitchen uses so many, our hens would never lay fast enough (no matter how much we squeeze them!) and so a number of free range producers in Somerset under the umbrella of ‘Blackacre Farm Eggs’ meet our demands! Thank you to all those chickens out there!

Crisps

Burts hand fried in Devon & naturally delicious.

Cider

Dorset Nectar, well established, family run business just outside of town.

Ales

Hattie Brown’s Ales, Swanage.

Thank you everyone for helping us in our quest to produce yummy food!
